Thoughts about… Dieting

// May 15th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Thoughts

There’s something to be said for eating what you want, when you want. You’ll pay for it in the long (or even short, depending on your pizza-devouring abilities) run, but there’s nothing to keep track of. No “points”, no calories, no fat. Diets typically restrict you to a specific serving amount of a specific range of items appropriate for consumption. While thinking about all of the different foods out there, I realized that there’s a correlation between the temptation of sweet, delectable piles of chunky monkey ice cream and what we’re not supposed to eat.

This seems obvious, yes. I’m saying that it can be argued that the best tasting foods are the worst for you. Sugar, salt, bad beyond moderation. Why are vegetables so wholesome and ultimately necessary for a healthy lifestyle? Have you ever had a nutrition bar? They don’t touch a banana split sundae as far as overall divulging taste and satisfaction.

I pose a question. Please, tell me why the majority of health foods seem to taste so “off”. I know about Splenda, Aspertame, soy, etc. Is it beyond our science to duplicate the taste of sugars, salts and meats without bitter aftertaste? Would replicating them accurately just result in the same product with the same damaging molecular structure?

I really want a Snickers. I just don’t have the points. I feel better now, though.
